Why I Prefer Old Documentaries

A thought I've had for a while

The more cognizant you are about your surroundings and what you take in consciously and subconsciously. Over engineered media becomes repulsing. There is very little allowance for the ebbs and flows of conversation and human emotion. Everything needs to be at an extreme of highs and lows. The media we consume is becoming more human than human.

This has an effect on you and your patterns of thinking and speech. This furthermore has a greater effect on children’s media and children's speech patterns. Due to the lack of baseline in human experience and the abundance of media out there in the ether. Their left with a constant stimuli dazes them, leaving them with nothing of substance.

If you extract this to the podcast realm, you start to see the podcast boom in a new light. The removal of over engineered content, the allowance for the ebbs and flows of conversation. It's also why I like old documentaries; the backgrounds are well light, almost grainy at times. The unique sounds of nature, and the allowance of natural pauses and silence. This is hard to find in the current age of short attention spans and constant cuts. It's refreshing and enlightening to watch old documentaries. You're left with something new you've learned and without that repulsion or dazed feeling.
